It is a common misconception that Iowa Land Records is just one website. In fact, the system is made up of two different applications, as well as a website that provides resources, information and news. Each application provides a different service to users, serving professionals in a variety of industries.
The Portal Application
The Iowa Land Records portal is a statewide source for viewing documents submitted to Iowa counties. Through integrations with all 99 Iowa counties, the portal provides access to view documents in each county. Each county’s electronic record archive is varied.
Account Set Up
Anyone can set up an account to view documents on the portal by visiting www.iowalandrecords.org/portal and clicking “Register Now.”
Login Assistance
If a user forgets his or her portal password, the user must click the “Forgot Password” link and follow the steps to reset the password. Iowa Land Records systems specialists are not able to assist users in this instance. Also noteworthy, the portal website requires Captcha authentication upon login.
TIP: Some users find it helpful to set up their portal and e-submission accounts with matching login credentials to avoid confusion.
Documents Available
Documents for all 99 Iowa counties are available for download. The “Search Tips” feature within the application provides users with more information about the counties in which they are searching, including details about how far back records date back to in that particular county and insights into that county’s indexing system.
The E-Submission Application
The Iowa Land Records e-submission application it a statewide source for submitting documents to county records in all 99 Iowa counties. Through integrations with county systems, the Iowa Land Records applications enables recorders to provide customers with recorded documents within 24 hours or one business day. Documents submitted through e-submission are sent through a redaction process and uploaded to the ILR portal application for viewing.
Account Set Up
To set up an e-submission account, an application is required. The Iowa Land Records Customer Service & Account Manager processes applications and directly works with organizations to set up e-submission accounts. Multiple users can be set up under one company account name.
Login Assistance
If a user forgets his or her e-submission password, an Iowa Land Records systems specialist is available to assist. The user can simply contact our support team to get the issue resolved.
Documents Available
As a submitter, you will have immediate access to your recorded documents. Within a few days the document will also be available on the portal application. As needed, the public document posted will have gone through a redaction process to remove any and all personally identifiable information.
